MemeWingman explains memes and messages from your friends and suggests memes to send back. This policy covers the MemeWingman apps for iPhone and Android and the website at memewingman.com. It says what MemeWingman keeps, where what you send goes, who else handles it, and how to delete it. MemeWingman is run by Beijing Tengxiu Chuangzhi Technology Co., Ltd. (“we”).
The short version
- Friend profiles, saved memes and past chats are stored on your device, not on our server.
- What you send in a chat goes through our server to an AI model, so it can answer you. Our server doesn’t keep it.
- Our server keeps your account, your sign-in sessions, how much you use MemeWingman, and your Plus subscription if you have one.
- We don’t sell your data, show ads or use trackers.
- You can delete your account in the app, under Me.
What stays on your device
The app keeps these on your device, separately for each account that signs in there:
- Friend profiles: each friend’s name, where they’re from, how you know them, and the facts you or MemeWingman added.
- The memes you saved, and your past chats. Pictures you shared aren’t kept in them.
- The chat suggestions made from your recent chats.
Your settings (the language explanations are in, where you’re from, dark mode) are kept on the device too. None of this syncs to our server or to your other devices.
What you send, and where it goes
Before your first AI request, the app asks permission to share the data below with the named providers. You can decline and still use the library, friends and saved chats. Withdraw permission for future AI requests in Me → AI data sharing.
- Chats. When you send a message, the app sends the conversation so far to our server, with any meme or screenshot in it, your explanation language, where you’re from if you said, and the profile of the friend you picked. Our server passes it through OpenRouter, a service that connects apps to AI models, to the model that writes the reply (currently Anthropic’s Claude). The reply comes back to your device. Our server doesn’t store the conversation.
- Suggestions. To suggest what to ask in an empty chat, the app sends a short digest of your recent chats and of the friends you’ve talked about, the same way. It isn’t stored either.
- Voice input. When you use the voice button, the app records until you stop, for a minute at most, and sends the recording to our server, which has it transcribed by a speech-to-text model on Cloudflare Workers AI. The text comes back to your device. We don’t keep the recording or the text.
- Pictures. When you add a meme or a screenshot, the app reads only the picture you pick, makes it smaller and sends it with your message.
- Contacts. When you add a friend from your contacts, the app reads only the contact you pick. It keeps their name, and a guess at where they’re from based on the country of their address or phone number, in the friend profile on your device.
What our server keeps
- Your account: the name and email address that Apple or Google gives us, and the profile picture link Google gives us. If you choose Hide My Email with Sign in with Apple, we get an address from Apple that forwards to yours. We also keep the identifiers and sign-in tokens Apple or Google issue for your account. Apple refresh tokens used to disconnect your account on deletion are encrypted on our server.
- Sign-in sessions: each time you sign in, a session that keeps you signed in, with the time, your IP address and the browser or app you signed in from. A session stops working when you sign out, or after about a week without use.
- Usage: for each chat reply, suggestion and transcription, the time, which AI model answered, how much it used and what it cost (for a transcription, the recording’s length), and how many requests you made each day, for the daily allowance. Never what was said.
- Your Plus subscription: where you bought it, the plan, its status and when it renews or ends. For a subscription from the web, also your customer ID at Stripe; for one from the App Store, its transaction ID and a random identifier we attach to your purchases so they can be matched to your account.
- Logs: Cloudflare runs our server and handles every request, including your IP address. It keeps logs of requests and errors for a few days, which we use to keep MemeWingman working.
Payments
On the web, Stripe takes payment for Plus. You enter your card on Stripe’s checkout page and we never see it. We give Stripe your name and email address, when we have one, to set up your customer record, and Stripe tells us your subscription’s status.
In the iPhone app, Apple takes payment through the App Store. Apple tells us about your subscription, not about how you paid.
Who else handles your data
We don’t sell or rent your data, and we don’t share it for advertising. These companies handle it to run MemeWingman, under their own privacy policies:
- Cloudflare runs our server, the database (in North America) and voice transcription.
- OpenRouter and the AI model’s provider, currently Anthropic, receive what you send in chats and the digests for suggestions.
- Apple and Google sign you in, and Apple takes payment in the iPhone app.
- Stripe takes payment on the web.
We also disclose data when the law requires us to.
Cookies and trackers
The website sets cookies only to sign you in and keep you signed in, and keeps the data described under “What stays on your device” in your browser’s storage. MemeWingman has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies or code, on the website or in the apps.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, usage and subscription records until you delete your account. Deleting it removes them from our database straight away; copies can remain in the database’s backups for up to 30 days.
Deleting your account
Delete your account in the app or on the website: open Me, then Delete account. This:
- cancels a Plus subscription bought on the web, straight away, and deletes your customer record at Stripe (Stripe keeps its records of the payments you made);
- deletes your account, sessions, usage and subscription records from our database;
- erases the friends, saved memes and chats the device you delete it on keeps for you.
Other devices you used keep their copy until you uninstall the app there, or clear the website’s data in that browser.
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription bought in the App Store: Apple bills it, and only you can cancel it, in your Apple ID’s subscription settings. Apple explains how in Cancel a subscription from Apple.
If you can’t sign in to delete your account, email us at support@mail.tenshowinnovation.com and we’ll delete it for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or California), you have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to get a copy of it, and to object to or limit how we use it. Most of your data is on your device, where you can see, change and delete it in the app. For what our server keeps, contact us. You can also complain to your data protection authority.
We use your data to provide MemeWingman to you (your account, chats, suggestions, transcriptions and subscription), and for our legitimate interest in keeping it secure, working and affordable to run (sessions, usage records and logs).
Children
MemeWingman isn’t for children under 13, or under the minimum age for using online services on their own where they live, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here and change the date at the top.
